Rideout Etiquette These are not rules, just some points you may want to consider for rideouts with the hartside.com crew.. We wont call them rules cos its up to you. Just helps a nice day out!
Before you arrive at the meeting point
-
If you are going to be late, phone me or text Admin, or another member attending. We will wait a reasonable amount of time for you. But don't want to be waiting until lunch time!!
- Familiarise yourself with the route, make sure you know the meeting points.
- Make sure your bike is in good enough condition to complete the rideout.
- Get a full tank of petrol!
Organised ride-outs will have various meeting points for members at specified times during the day. It enables the slow groups to catch up with the fast group if they speed on ahead.
If there are any probs during the ride, text or phone Admin or another friend in the group.
On the road
- If you are riding behind admin, don't sit right up my arse. (or anyone else's
for that matter.) There is no need for it and it pisses me off! You WILL get
both barrels off me!
- Give everyone some space.
- At any point the route deviates from the strip of tarmac in front, roundabouts, junctions etc wait for
the bike behind, to mark the way for everyone else.
- Do not ride above your ability/limits to try and keep up. The bike in front
will be waiting for you at the next junction. We will also make regular stops
for a breather/fag break during which you can catch up safely.
- Do not get pushed along by a faster bike behind you. Move over and let them
through. Only play hard with people you know and trust.
- If you are the faster bike, don't make stupid maneuvers to get past
(especially passing them on the left! ). Wait till they let you through, or
find a safe place to get past.
- It doesn't matter whether you ride like a foggy or a fanny, just go at your
own pace.
- Its not a race and you wont get left behind. Just cos you cant see the bike
in front doesn't mean you've got to ride like a loon to catch it up again.
Take it steady and it will be waiting somewhere.
- Check your mirrors before pulling out
- If the bike in front has overtaken a car, it doesn't mean its safe for you as well. Watch the road, and be safe.
If everyone follows these simple ideas we can all enjoy a cracking ride, and
have a good chat at the destination.
If you bring along some friends, who may have not read this, please brief
them on what is expected.
