> Out and About > Cumbria

Cumbria is a popular holiday spot for families, walkers, cyclists and motorcyclists alike. Whether you are local or visiting the area for the first time you should be aware than in the summer months the roads get very busy with cars, cyclists and pedestrians.

That said, its still possible to really enjoy your ride out without getting stuck with the bulk of the tourists and enjoy some of the inspiring scenery that the lakes has to offer.

Apart from the roads, things to do when you get there are so wide and varied. Ditch your bike and do some hill walking, visit one of the many historic houses, stone circles, waterfalls or simply explore the pretty towns and villages such as Keswick, Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside and Coniston.

The Sixteen lakes in Cumbria surrounded by mountains provide ample opportunities for relaxation.

BEST ROADS

Our Suggested route map and guide for Cumbria will arrive next month.

But, if that's not soon enough for you, One of our favourite roads is the A591 Keswick to Windermere. Gets pretty crowded in the summer, but plenty of twisties, great scenery and fast bits if its not the weekend.
If your up for a challenge, you must check out Hardknott Pass and Honister Pass - not for the weak hearted!

You can NOT miss the A686 Penrith to Alston route - so good we named the site after it. Below are links to featured places in Cumbria.
