There have been one too many motorcycle related deaths - in fact there have
been more than one to many, we have
put together the following set of articles and information. Ride safe, make
motorcycling an enjoyable hobby and not something which causes trauma and tears.
Deaths over hartside (and anywhere in the UK) cause upset to the villagers,
not just to the families and friends of the victims involved. Everyone always
thinks, 'it will never happen to me' and makes excuses that they are
'the best rider in the world' You may be the safest motorcyclist in the UK,
but as with ANY form of transport, you are only responsible for your own
actions, and whilst you can judge your speed and the road ahead, you can NOT
judge the actions of other road users, be they car, truck or lorry drivers,
cyclists or pedestrians.

If you want to ride fast, get on
a race track
In response, the Police will be operating mobile cameras at accident black
spots in Cumbria, including the A686. These mobile cameras will NOT spoil the
enjoyment of a day out providing you ride within the law. The area over
Hartside/Alston and the Moors heralds some of the best roads and beautiful
scenery, which should be enjoyed - not mourned. If you have any queries on what
is within the law and road traffic speeds/signs, please view our legal section,
or more importantly consider an advanced riding course.
Its great to have fun riding your bike, we all know that, but consider how
much fun you can have with your leg in a cast or in the worst case scenario -
when you don't get up from the fall at all.
Trackdays and Events are held all over the country at various tracks by
various organisers. If you want to ride fast, then get yourself on a track day -
if you want to race your mates, then do it on a track - not on the roads.
Trackday organisers have on hand professional medical personnel to assist in the
event of an accident, you come off on the road and you'll have to wait for an
ambulance.
